How we work
Every organization is different—we meet our clients where they are. Rather than work from a set playbook, we create space for strategies to develop through dialogue. We use the restorative practices that we encourage clients to adopt, modeling the work as we guide clients through their own journey.
We begin each engagement by organizing circle processes to explore issues to be addressed and the needs of those impacted, and begin to identify strategies for meeting those needs. From there, we convene circles focused on developing those strategies further. Depending on the needs of your organization, circles might focus on any of the following areas:
Team- and culture-building
Your organization's culture is built brick-by-brick from the relationships between your people. Proactive restorative practices are about establishing patterns for real connection at this foundational level. When people sit in circle together and really hear one another's needs, satisfying and enthusiastic collaboration becomes possible.
Conflict Facilitation
We support clients in the use of restorative circles to handle workplace conflict, through modeling and facilitation. These circles bring together everyone affected by a conflict and give them the opportunity to express their perspective on the situation, reach a shared understanding, collaborate on ways to address the conflict, and where appropriate, take accountability for their contribution to the issue. This process helps the organization better understand and address the sources of conflict, and they promote the understanding necessary for relationships to heal in the wake of conflict.
Restorative Human Resources
Restorative HR means healing relationships before loss or risk is unavoidable. It's a way to approach employee behavior and performance issues with curiosity and understanding, and to resolve them through dialog. When a particular issue reaches a crisis point, this may mean holding a conflict-resolution circle as described above. But restorative HR can also involve giving leaders and HR staff tools to surface and address employee needs early on.
Crisis Counseling
Sometimes we begin working with clients amidst an ongoing crisis. We bring calm and experience to difficult situations, helping our clients gather facts, consider multiple perspectives, and develop a proportionate and restorative response.
Coaching
Restorative practices require practice: they're a way of being, not a process that can be followed by rote. Our coaches model the practices for your teams, then follow up as you get the hang of it—checking in, answering your questions, and helping you respond to issues as they arise.
